Jasper was a pretty cat
Of black and white
With eyes so bright
And fluffy tail
Held high and proud
But his meow was not too loud.
Merlin was a wild cat
With tabby fur,
Contented purr
And ears with tufts,
Just like a lynx.
He really was a little minx.
Jasper was a sleepy cat
Who liked to laze
On summer days
Till Chris returned
And then he'd stay
Beside him for the rest of the day.
Merlin was a busy cat.
For hours he'd roam
Away from home,
Then reappear
To curl beside me
For an hour or two, contentedly.
Merlin and Jasper liked to fight
With swishing tails
And growls and wails,
But no real harm,
As if to say look I'm your brother
We really mustn't hurt each other.
Merlin and Jasper disappeared
One night together
Gone forever.
We searched the fields.
We searched the lane,
But we never saw either of them again
We don't know where our two beautiful cats are now. Perhaps they have
new homes, and if so we hope only that they are loved, as we loved them, for then they will be happy. Perhaps, though, they
are no longer in this world.
They had one beautiful year that we were priviledged to share.
They gave us their love.
They shared with us their beauty.
They left us with wonderful memories.
For that we shall always be grateful.
