Happy Birthday John!

If John had lived another six years, December 31 2003 would have been his 60th birthday. No doubt he would have had a big celebration party. As it is many of us will be holding parties on this special day to celebrate his birth. Actually, I wanted to write a poem to celebrate it, but it just wouldn't come! so I did this page instead.

A little while ago my daughter asked me a question which really made me think. I have for some time had bad health, and family  problems have meant that many of the things I wanted to do with my life were never done.

What my daughter asked was - If I could have the opportunity to live my life over again and do the things I had wanted to and enjoy good health, but in return would never discover John's music, what would I choose?

Well that did make me think, not about the answer, I didn't have to think long about that because there is nothing for which I would give up the discovery of John and his music. I can't and don't want to imagine my life without him.

What made me think was that means I did have the thing I wanted most in life. I had John.

So where ever you are, John...

 Have a very happy birthday!!!

Thank you for this precious day,
These gifts you give to me.
My heart so full of love for you
Sings praise for all I see.
Oh sing for every mother's love,
For every childhood tear.
Oh sing for all the stars above,
The peace beyond all fear.

I love the song 'Falling Leaves'. It seems so appropriate for so many occasions. I remember when I first heard John sing it in 1988 at a concert at the NEC Birmingham, UK. He taught us the words so that we could sing it with him. This verse always makes me think of Christmas.

A few days ago my husband asked me which of John's songs I felt best represented his birthday. The first song to come into my head was Aspenglow so I decided to use the music for that song and the rest just fell into place.

See the sunlight through the pine,
Taste the warm of winter wine,
Dream of softly falling snow,
Winter skol, Aspenglow.

As the winter days unfold,
Hearts grow warmer with the cold,
Peace of mind is all you know,
Winter skol, Aspenglow.

Aspen is the life to live,
See how much there is to give,

See how strongly you believe,
See how much you may receive.

Smiling faces all around,
Laughter is the only sound,
Memories that can't grow old,
Winter skol, Aspenglow.

Winter skol.....
